Support Organisations

The following is a list of Australian Based Support Organisations that offer support through pregnancy/ child loss and pregnancy after loss. 

Precious Wings

Precious Wings supply Memory Boxes and Memory Bags to hospitals across Queensland and these are given to families who lose a baby, of any gestation, regardless of cause of death. They also provide free education sessions to hospital staff about caring for bereaved families. They also provide monthly support groups and restorative yoga classes. 

Red Nose/ SANDS

Red Nose Grief and Loss (together with SANDS) offers bereavement support for anyone affected by miscarriage, stillbirth the death of a baby or child. Services include: Counselling, 24 hour bereavement support line (1300 308 307), peer support, memorials/ remembrance ceremonies, and social gatherings. 

Penthos

Penthos provides grieving parents a fully donor-funded, specialist therapy program for couples suffering unresolved grief following the loss of a child. Penthos provides a free tertiary mental health service delivered by specially trained health professionals (psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, social workers, and couple therapists). Couples can attend therapy face-to-face or via video link depending on their location or circumstances. 

Pregnancy After Loss Support


Pregnancy After Loss Support (PALS) is a non-profit organization for women experiencing the confusing and conflicting emotions of grief mixed with joy during the journey through pregnancy after loss. PALS seeks to help expectant mothers celebrate their current pregnancy by choosing hope over fear while still nurturing and honoring the grief over the loss of their deceased child.

Whilst this is not an Australian based organization, they are the only organization to offer a Pregnancy After loss App where you can track your rainbow pregnancy week to week and find helpful resources to manage your stress. 

The Pink Elephants

Pink Elephants provides resources, information and peer-support for anyone impacted by early pregnancy loss. Pink Elephants offers specialist support, whenever and wherever it’s needed — for anyone who has directly experienced it, for family and friends, corporate partners or healthcare professionals seeking proven ways to help.


Bears of Hope


Bears of Hope is an Australian not-for-profit organization based in Sydney, dedicated to providing support and care for families experiencing the loss of their baby. They offer a counselling hotline, grief workshops, wellness programs, as well as raise much needed money for things such as cuddle cots in maternity units throughout Australian hospitals. 


Stillbirth Foundation Australia


The stillbirth foundation Australia raises funds to reduce the incidence and impact of stillbirth through research, education and advocacy. They offer a number of resources via their website including practical advice on things such as returning to work, leave entitlements and government payments post stillbirth.
